Casos OKEx-BitMEX evidencian debilidades y fortalezas en la infraestructura del mercado criptográfico

Esta noticia ha revelado dos asuntos claros del mercado criptográfico: Por un lado, la etapa de inmadurez que vienen superando los intercambios con el paso de los días y la resistencia de las criptomonedas a sostenerse a pesar de noticias que otrora serían devastadoras. En esta nota te detallamos los pormenores de este caso. Octubre 19.- La semana que terminó y esta que comienza se ha visto inundada de información sobre OKEx, uno de los intercambios de criptomonedas más grandes de la industria. OKEx tuvo que suspender todos los retiros de criptomonedas, debido a que que uno de los titulares de claves del intercambio, su fundador, Xu Mingxin, fue arrestado por autoridades chinas. Este caso surge poco tiempo después de las acusaciones en contra de BitMEX ocurridas hace un par de semanas. Casos que seguramente centrarán la atención del mercado en la seguridad de los protocolos de retiro de los grandes intercambios.
Durante el proceso de lo ocurrido con BitMEX pasó algo similar a lo que está ocurriendo con OKEx: El protocolo de retiro necesitaba un cierto número de firmas autorizadas y uno de los firmantes autorizados había sido arrestado. Sin embargo, en ese momento, las preocupaciones resultaron ser infundadas, los retiros continuaron sin problemas, pero la posibilidad, combinada ahora con la realidad de OKEx, destaca cuán única es la infraestructura del mercado de criptoactivos. Algunos informes dicen que Xu no fue detenido por la policía, que había pedido su protección. Otros dicen que fue detenido hace dos semanas y no lo ha sido desde entonces. OKEx sostiene que Xu ya no representa a la empresa, que se separó de OK Group a principios de este año. Esto deja sin explicación la suspensión de retiros.

How would that be fixed? The curve of supply is asymptote, meaning that it will never reach zero. Evidently, as the STA token increases in value, the amounts of STA being traded will slowly decrease: The typical investor might buy 10.000 STA at the current rate, but in the future (proportional to an increase in the valueation of STA) this number will tend to decrease, hence the future investor might only buy 1000 STA. This of course results in less STA being burned. Additionally, STA is divisible to the 18th decimal, why – even if the supply was to reach 1 STA – there would be a sufficient supply. Well this would be a question for a Mathematician, and luckily we’re loaded with them (as seen above)! I’ll try to illustrate with an example. 1% of 100 million is 1 million, 1% of 10 million is 100,000. As we go down in supply the burn is less by volume. What also happens at lower supply is higher prices (supply and demand economics). So those 1 million tokens burned may be worth $20,000, but by the time overall supply is at 10 million those 100,000 tokens may also be worth $20,000 or even more. This means you transact “less”, if you want to buy 1 Ether now with Statera you need 8,900 STA which would burn 89 tokens. If Statera is worth $100 you only need 2.32 statera (.023 tokens burned). Along with this proportional and relative burn decrease, tokens are 18 decimals long, so even when we get to 1 token left (which mathematically would take decades if not centuries, but that is wholly dependent on usage), you are still left with 10 to the 18th power, or one quintillion “tokens”. En una audiencia judicial el sábado, el abogado de Clark, David Weisbrod, informó sobre los activos de Clark (300 bitcoins), reseñó Coindesk, con base en información publicada por Tampa Bay Times. Aunque los fiscales dijeron que los bitcoins «seguramente fueron obtenidos ilegalmente, dada la conducta” de Clark, en referencia al ataque en Twitter, su abogado negó esa afirmación.
No es la primera vez
Recordó que Clark fue objeto de una investigación penal el año pasado y en ese momento los fiscales le incautaron unos 15.000 dólares en efectivo y una wallet con 400 bitcoins. De ese total, le devolvieron el efectivo y el acceso a 300 bitcoins. No se sabe el paradero de los otros 100 bitcoins. Weisbrod argumentó que esa devolución legitima esos bitcoins. «No se me ocurre mayor indicación de legitimidad que la devolución del dinero por parte de las fuerzas del orden», expresó Weisbrod.
El adolescente enfrenta 30 cargos
Detenido el viernes 31 de julio, las autoridades ven a Clark como el autor intelectual del hackeo en Twitter «CryptoForHealth», un ataque coordinado a cuentas de personalidades y empresas, que prometía duplicar el dinero de los usuarios que enviaran bitcoins. En total, $117.000 en bitcoins fueron a los piratas informáticos esa tarde. Clark fue arrestado el 31 de julio y enfrenta 30 cargos por delitos graves: 17 cargos de fraude en comunicaciones, 11 cargos de uso fraudulento de información personal, así como un cargo de allanamiento de un dispositivo electrónico y otro cargo más por fraude organizado debe enfrentar Clark. Otras dos personas también han sido acusadas por su presunta participación en el pirateo: Mason Sheppard, de 19 años, residente en el Reino Unido, y Nima Fazeli, de 22 años, residente en Florida, EE.UU. Ellos se enfrentan a cargos federales ya que son adultos, mientras que Clark se enfrenta a cargos estatales por ser menor de edad.
El hackeo del 15 de julio
Morocotacoin informó el 15 de julio Las cuentas oficiales en Twitter de empresas y personalidades famosas e influyentes de todo el mundo fueron hackeadas masivamente. Destacados políticos, empresarios, celebridades y principales plataformas exchanges del mundo publicaron en su Twitter un enlace con una falsa oferta para presuntamente estafar bitcoins. Esto sucedió específicamente con las cuentas de Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Michael Bloomberg, Joe Biden, Kanye West, Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffet, Apple, Uber, Coinbase, Kucoin, Gemini y hasta la modelo Kim Kardashian, entre muchas otras. Todas estas publicaron un enlace con el nombre «CryptoForHealth», a través del cual se podían realizar depósitos en bitcoins. Tras el hackeo masivo, del cual también fueron víctimas la cuenta de la exchange Binance y la de su CEO, Changpeng Zhao. Zhao condsideró “bastante débiles” las opciones de seguridad en Twitter, reseñó Morocotacoin. Incluso senadores de Estados Unidos exigieron a Twitter respuestas sobre el hackeo, que afectó también al expresidente Barack Obama e incluso a un candidato presidencial demócrata, tal como reportó Morocotacoin.

Según datos de Tradingview, en los últimos 6 meses el oro incrementó su precio un 20%, mientras que el bitcoin, a pesar de haber mostrado un comportamiento más volátil, aumentó un 25%. Al momento de esta redacción el oro cotizó en $1973 por onza, y el bitcoin en $11.134 con una capitalización de $205.002.138.787. Ambos activos son utilizados como reserva de valor a largo plazo, pero la criptomoneda tiene ventaja como método de pago por su forma digital. Además, el BTC tiene un suministro máximo de 21 millones de unidades mientras que para el oro no se tiene muy claro cuánto queda por extraer. Los dos son escasos, pero la oferta limitada del bitcoin podría ser más atractiva para la demanda. La resistencia falsificada
Es un término que mide la calidad de la unicidad de un activo específico. Los activos propensos a la falsificación conllevan un alto riesgo de devaluación y, a menudo, requieren métodos o herramientas de detección de falsificaciones. Es muy difícil verificar la calidad y pureza del oro, o si es oro, sin las herramientas adecuadas. El oro físico es propenso a la falsificación y a la reducción de su pureza, mientras que el bitcoin es totalmente resistente a la falsificación. Esto es posible gracias a la red blockchain, que verifica y registra cada moneda y transacción extraída.
Es un rasgo importante que te permite transferir sus activos sin problemas en poco tiempo. Ya sea que poseas oro físico o un pagaré (IOU), el oro no es fácil de transferir. Lleva días, si no semanas, transferir oro físico a una ubicación diferente o realizar una transacción. Cryptomarketing in 2020: successful application of strategies from MLM and the beauty industry Over the past decade, the crypto-industry has proven to be a unique industry with a specific audience, which requires a no less specific approach. In this regard, in 2020, the advertising activity of crypto companies is significantly different from that to which banks and various financial companies resort. Industry leaders prefer not to rely on traditional online advertising on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Industry leaders in developing countries often resort to the latter option, where large sites like Amazon simply don’t work or aren’t popular. For example, Michelle Haber, a bitcoin maximalist from Libya, made it clear in CoinDesk’s comment that social networks and chats are today the most effective way to distribute goods / services in crypto topics. Referral Bonuses and MLM Marketing
The development of products within the community often turns into MLM marketing strategies, which require the presence of referral bonuses and bonuses “in depth” — favorite schemes of cosmetic brands. When her subscribers register on the exchange and buy cryptocurrencies worth more than $100, she receives $10 in BTC. According to her, she is doing a good deed. The blogger wants people who are interested in her opinion on digital money to start their crypto path on Gemini, and not, for example, on Coinbase, because the latter charges “crazy commissions”. Referral system bonuses are a typical phenomenon for many crypto companies, and successful bloggers are happy to use this. A prime example is Michael Gu, known by the pseudonym Boxmining. It has been distributing information about digital money since 2012, having gathered an audience of more than 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 3,500 participants in Telegram chat during this time. Despite the fact that the manufacturer of hardware wallets Ledger does not sponsor its activities, it places referral links in the video descriptions and collects voluntary donations from subscribers. As you might guess, he feels rather well. Thus, Rodolfo Novak, co-founder of Coinkite, confirmed the growth in demand for products, despite the pandemic. Working with the community is their main marketing strategy, because it really gives results. Over the past three years, they donated about 50 wallets to YouTube reviewers. Novak is proud that their “users help other users.” According to him, this approach allows you to sell products at a lower price, since the cost of goods does not include high costs for familiar marketing campaigns.
Are marketing strategies effective? More than
The cryptocurrency market relies on marketing strategies that have established themselves in the beauty industry, which in the new field are no less effective. Maximum performance is achieved with a killer combination of all three of the above methods. It’s about when the founders of cryptocompanies themselves become opinion leaders. Ok people, I've spent all day reading the Shrimpy literature online and checking out all of Shrimpy's major resources and backtest studies. Here's the big picture of what it all looks like... (...fascinating stuff by the way). Your welcome :D I asked Shrimpy Michael (founder) on Telegram, and he confirmed: "It sounds like you have read all of our studies! [yay, me] Our results have suggested that the portfolio you describe has historically produced the highest median performance." Most (?) of the data/studies, as far as I can see, are based on a $5,000 starting investment and historical data from an overall uptrending bull / bear market in May 2017 - May 2018 (I like your style Shrimpy - include both bull / bear with an overall uptrend). Wondering what that bull / bear market looked like? Here it is, in Bitcoin (in between the grey lines): Bitcoin Bull / Bear Market (May 2017 - May 2018) Hodlers of crypto's largest asset during this period saw a roughly 500% increase in value, if they just stored Bitcoin and did nothing else. Shrimpy backtests blow it out of the water (each one of the four things linked to in bold at the top *individually* blows it out of the water). Interesting... not saying I'm an evangelist yet, just plotting it all out. There is one more caveat. It does matter what exchange(s) you use. Apparently the studies show that portfolio performance is also affected by the exchange (its trading fees and liquidity/spreads). For traders outside of the US, I think Binance is the obvious "Shrimpy-approved" exchange of choice (with $100 billion in monthly volume and 0.1% trading fees - wow). For US traders, you have 8 legal options. The following exchanges are ranked in order according to their liquidity/volume, with trading fees in (parentheses): Coinbase Pro (.5%), Kraken (.26%), Bitstamp (.5%), KuCoin (.1%), Bittrex (.2%), Binance US (.1%), CEX (.25%), and Binance DEX (.1%). The liquidity on these are a far cry from Binance's international exchange, and the trading fee percentages are for lowest-money tier takers (wow that sounds like such an insult, that's what I am?) at the time of this writing [source]. Now, the only catch perhaps to all this is of course having to store your *decentralized* digital assets in a majority of *centralized* exchanges, and hope it doesn't get Mt. Gox'd one day. That's a big drawback right now in my book. One thing you can do is diversify your assets between all the centralized exchanges (that's kind of like using a decentralized exchange, right?) and just eat the large variety of trading fees and spreads each one offers, whatever they are. Do that if you're worried about security. Actually even better, implement Shrimpy's cold wallet storage solution and keep the lion's share of your assets in a hardware wallet. That's it, I'm done. At the end of the day, its nice to have a product and/or a service that is viable, but ultimaltely the team and experience of a strong go-to-market strategy is what brings adoption. As mentioned, as we enter into an economic downturn, consumers will be on heightened alert to want to save and earn more rewards from brands.
